Make your New Year's Resolutions Last!

Updated: Jan 30, 2023

Here are 5 simple tips to get those New Year's Resolutions to turn into reality.

In spite of how they tend to turn out; millions of people make them every year. However, if - like me - you started with great focus and determination, had every intention to push through, but fizzled out somewhere along the way, it can be disheartening. The big question is: How does one keep going, sustain the momentum - and win at life and work?

In this article I'd like to share some simple tips and techniques which can get you to your mountain peak for 2023.

Tip #1 - Start with Purpose

All goals are worth having, but the ones that are attached to a purpose tend to outlast even the best incentives.

In his bestseller - Start With Why - Simon Sinek outlines the reason some leaders succeed in seeing through audacious goals to completion. Many entrepreneurs launch a business with a breakthrough idea, but fail to follow through. Subsequently, the venture fails within the first few years. The reason for this may be attributed to unclear Goal-setting or in the business implementation, however a lack of purpose may be the deciding factor. Experience has taught me that purposefulness can outlive unclear goal setting and bad talent decisions - giving an entrepreneur the necessary tenacity to persist.

WW2 Concentration Camp Survivor - Viktor Frankel - found the singular effect of Meaning and Purpose in his observation of why so many young people died, yet older prisoners survived. His work led to a term called Logo Psychology. He noticed that the prisoners who wanted to reconnect with family after the war, were much more like to survive than those who didn't have this desperate purpose.

Tip #2 - Create a strategy

Whether you're working at one goal for yourself, like getting fit or establishing a series of goals to enable your business to grow, create a measurable 'roadmap'. Organizations use our GoPeak Tackling The Summit® process to help them strategize, set specific targets, then stay on track by having check-in points. During these workshops they get a visual roadmap of the way up the mountain.

Individuals can do the same. In order to get you started on the right track. Click here to get your complimentary check-in, in order to identify growth areas for yourself and/or your business.

Tip #3 - Keep Track and Measure

Most new goals fade to black if there is no clear and precise way to track and measure how we're doing. GoPeak's PPT® Diagnostic measures your progress to keep those goals in vivid colour. It also shows where you are "stuck". Used alongside a programme of coaching support, this tool enhances progress in multiples!

Tip #4 - Get a Coach

We know it's not easy to keep accountability for yourself, by yourself. There are so many distractions and new pursuits which divert our focus and energy.

A Coaching Plan which suits your needs could be the key to unlocking your genius. If you're not ready to commit to a plan yet, why not try out a complimentary session with one of our amazing coaches.

An effective coach is like having an accountability buddy. They don't do the work for you, but they facilitate your growth by helping you to show up for yourself.

Tip #5 - Compound Results!

Running sensation Usian Bolt famously said:

Even if you work a little bit at a time and keep at it, you will be further along than the person who does nothing.

Win at Life and Work

One of the most effective strategies to make your goals become a reality is to find inspiration from those who have succeeded at it. Find inspiration through books, quotes, podcasts and other means of keeping the energy for you goals alive. It may be that as 2024 comes round that you are able to look back on significant strides forward.

Happy Goal Setting for 2023!
